Are you really ready? The founder scorecard to check before you launch
Use a simple self-assessment to check if you're ready, mentally, financially, and strategically, to start a real business, not just chase an idea.
Learning goal
Startup success doesn’t come from a brilliant idea alone.
It starts with you.
Before you launch a product or pitch an investor, ask:
Am I ready to build something that lasts?
The Founder Scorecard is a reflection tool, not a test.
It helps you check your mindset, skills, support, and stamina.
So you launch smart, not blind.
Why it matters
Many founders jump before they’re ready
And they burn out fast. This tool helps you prepare, not panic.Success needs more than passion
It takes time, resilience, support, and structure.
Better to find and fix the gaps early.Readiness is a process
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be honest.
The 5-part founder readiness check
1. Mindset
Can you handle uncertainty?
Do you bounce back when things move slow, or break?
Are you here to solve a real problem, not chase the spotlight?
2. Skills
Can you build or sell?
Can you explain your idea simply?
Are you resourceful and scrappy when things don’t go to plan?
3. Resources
How many hours per week can you commit?
Do you have savings, a part-time gig, or a safety net?
Can you bootstrap, or get help early on?
4. Commitment
Can you say no to distractions?
Do you have a support system or co-founder?
Will you still show up when it gets hard?
5. Network
Do you have mentors, peers, or startup friends you can call?
Can you reach early users directly?
Are you plugged into a builder or founder community?
What to do now
Score yourself 1–5 in each area (max 25 points).
20–25: Solid base. You’re ready to start smart.
15–19: You’re close, identify the gaps, and fill them.
Below 15: Pause. Reflect. Build readiness before you burn out.
This isn’t a pass/fail, it’s a compass.
Quick checklist
You’re on the right track if:
You’ve reflected honestly on your current state
You know where you’re strong—and what needs work
You’re preparing intentionally, not guessing
You treat readiness as something you build, not something you’re born with
StellarPH tip
Share your score with a mentor or peer.
Don’t just reflect, talk it out.
Ask: “What’s one thing I could strengthen this month?”Because the best founders aren’t born ready.
They get ready. One decision, one habit, one step at a time.
