Tech Veteran Xavier Marzan Joins StellarPH as Co-Founder
In a move set to bolster the Philippine startup ecosystem, Xavier Marzan, a seasoned technology executive and venture capitalist, has joined StellarPH as a co-founder. This development marks a significant step in StellarPH's mission to nurture and empower the next generation of tech entrepreneurs in the country.
Marzan brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Currently serving as the Managing Partner of Embiggen Ventures, an AI-focused venture fund, he has a proven track record in scaling startups to unicorn status. His past achievements include leading GCash and TrueMoney, two Southeast Asian fintech unicorns, from their inception to serving millions of users.
"Since returning to the Philippines over a decade ago, I've made it my mission to help grow and scale the technology startup ecosystem in the country," Marzan stated. "I believe in the power of innovation and startups to uplift people's lives, disrupt industries, and accelerate value creation in an economy."
Marzan's decision to co-found StellarPH stems from his observation that the Philippine startup ecosystem lags behind neighboring countries like Indonesia and Vietnam. He notes that the traditional career paths in the Philippines often steer talented individuals away from entrepreneurship, particularly in the tech sector.
"Most people were 'trained' growing up to be good employees and executives rather than trailblazing entrepreneurs, much less tech founders," Marzan explained. "Being a tech entrepreneur or startup founder is still not a typical path."
StellarPH aims to address this gap by focusing on developing younger talents and workers for the future. Through various programs, the organization provides different avenues for people to learn and experience what it's like to create something and understand the startup life.
Marzan emphasizes the importance of instilling an entrepreneurial mindset early in one's educational journey. "Startups and entrepreneurship are a mindset, and it's something that needs to be instilled early in someone's educational journey. It's something that can and should be taught. So we need to enable and empower more founders. This is where StellarPH comes in," he added.
With his extensive background in technology, finance, and corporate development, including roles at AOL Time Warner and Accenture, Marzan is well-positioned to guide StellarPH in its mission. His passion for technology's potential to positively impact lives aligns perfectly with StellarPH's goals.
